Mr. Russell Floyd "Doodle" Meadows, 71, of Adel, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on November 20, 1948 to the late Floyd Meadows and his surviving mother, Mildred Duren Meadows of Sparks, Georgia. Russell was a life-long Baptist and loved his Lord and Savior. His first church home was at Sparks Baptist Church. He attended Cook High School prior to joining the United States Army, where he served three tours of duty in Vietnam, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He later attended Valdosta Technical School receiving training and awards in Advanced Diesel Mechanics. He worked with Griffin Corporation, was employed as Service Manager with Ryder Systems in Valdosta, Georgia, managing the Valdosta and Thomasville Ryder Shops for 23 years before retirement. His interests centered around doing things with his hands, working in his yard, reenacting with fellow War Between the States hobbyists, marching in parades, portraying Santa Claus, camping, shaking hands with other Veterans, serving as a member of the committee that brought the Vietnam Moving Wall to Adel in 2013, and dusting his Mustang Shelby. He held membership in the Valdosta Sons of the American Revolution, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1090 and American Legion Post 91. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1090. Ryan Duren, Phil Emrich, Chad Ward, Jamie Hickey, Chuck Warren and Dennis Harrell served as active pallbearers; honorary pallbearers included members of the Georgia Patriot Guard, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1090, and the American Legion. Flowers were accepted and memorials may still be made to the local Vietnam Veterans Chapter #1090 or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 16th Floor, New York, New York 10001 or on the web at alzfdn.org.
