LAKE CITY -- The funeral for Dorothy Miller Peterson will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Valley View Assembly of God Church in Lake City, with the Revs. Orin Sandberg and Clarence St. John officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Clearwater, Minn.

Mrs. Peterson, 83, of Lake City, died Monday (Sept. 17, 2007) at the Lake City Hospital.

Dorothy Miller was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Clearwater. She attended schools in Clearwater in Minneapolis. On Dec. 23, 1942, she married the Rev. Lester Peterson. The couple lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin and pastored at a number of Assembly of God Churches, including twice in Lake City. They were also foster parents to more than 100 Vietnamese refugees, as part of an ecumenical program sponsored by the local Lake City churches. To all these refugees, she was known as "mom." She was a member of Valley View Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include a son, David (Na) of Lake City; two daughters, Karen (Gary) Kibler of Cumberland, Wis., and LaDon Cheek of Fort Worth, Texas; many foster children; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters, Eileen Keehr of Fort Ripley, Minn., Dennis (Marcella) Miller of San Jose, Calif., E.M. (Rev. Merwin) Miller of Janesville, Minn., Lou (Robert) Crawford of Apple Valley, Minn., Alden (Isabelle) Miller of Spring Lake Park, Minn., Roger (Barbara) Miller of Hopkins, Minn., and David (Lou) Miller of Clearwater. She was preceded in death by her husband in January 1985, and a brother Loren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.

Memorials are preferred to the Fire Bibles and Missions.
