Although known to many descendants as "Avery" B. Glasson, his father's will in Walton County, Georgia shows his name as "Awberry" and his 1842 Mississippi land patent records his name as "Awbrey." He was born in Jackson County, Georgia, the only son of John Glasson and Elizabeth Aubrey. His sisters were: Sarah, who married Goodwin Miller; Mary, who married Stephen J. Hearn; and Rebecca who married Robert A. Johnston.
In the book, Wayfarers in Walton, "Awbry Glasson" is included in a list of teachers who taught in Walton County between 1828 and 1834. In Historical Notes on Jackson County, Georgia, A. B. Glason is listed as a teacher in Capt. Roger's District for "the Political year of 1834;" he had 5 male scholars, 11 female scholars, and was paid $63.20.

Aubrey married Elvira Caroline McMullen, daughter of William McMullen and Susannah Scott McMullen, on 10 November 1835 in Jackson County, Georgia; the officiating minister was J. W. Glenn. Sometime before 1840, they moved to Chickasaw County, Mississippi with Susannah's parents and siblings and her uncle, James Scott and his family; they settled in that part of Chickasaw that later became Webster County, and it was here they raised their large family.
