Born November 4th, 1852 to Jean François Van den Bossche and Mathilde (neé Van Belle). Her ancestry was Dutch. She married Victor Charles Chevalier (1854-??) on October 30th, 1872. They had three children:
Charles (1877-1938),
Paul (1884-1969),
and Maurice (1888-1972).
Victor was an alcoholic house painter and abandoned the family in 1896. No record exists of him after this point.
Joséphine had to work to support her sons and became frail. She had a very close relationship with her youngest child, Maurice, who would later say that she was "the only woman I ever loved". He nicknamed her "La Louque" - he was devoted to her and greatly saddened when hearing of her passing in 1929. He later named his estate in Marnes-La-Croquette "La Louque" after her - upon his death in 1972 he was buried together with her.
