French Army General. The Comte de Saint-Hilaire, he fought first in the French Revolutionary Wars, then in the Napoleonic Wars. As a General of Division, he led troops at battles such as Austerlitz, Jena, Eylau and Heilsberg. At the May 1809 Battle of Aspern-Essling in what is now present-day Austria, he had his leg taken off by a cannonball, and died from his wounds fifteen days later.
