He was born on January 2, 1948, to Thomas Lee Atkins and Bertha Mae (Tucker) Atkins in Elkin, North Carolina. He graduated from Osceola High School. Steve proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war.
Steve loved to fish and he was a business owner. He married Denise Fisk and they resided in Osceola County.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Mike (Jackie) Atkins, Dewayne (Jewell) Hemric of Georgia; step-sons, Jeremy (Shiloh) Dingler of Georgia, Brandon Dingler of Florida; grandchildren, Camden Dingler of Georgia and Raiden Dingler of Florida and several nieces and nephews. Steve also leaves behind his mother in law, Audrey Fisk; sister in law Brenda Halas, and brother in law Ralph Fisk, Jr., and sister in law Joyce Atkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles Lee Atkins and a sister in law Cathy Fisk.
