Princess Beatrice of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was the youngest child of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and his wife, Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. Her paternal grandmother was Queen Victoria and her maternal grandfather was Tsar Alexander II of Russia. She was married at Rosenau in Germany on July 15, 1909 to Don Alfonso de Orléans y Borbón, Infant of Spain, 3.Duque de Galliera, a cousin of the King of Spain and a member of the Spanish branch of the d'Orléans family. She had issue three sons, only one of whom left issue.

Princess Beatrice was referred to as Baby Bee by her immediate, closest family, as a child.
