MR. JOHN MARTIN CROSS, age 74, of Bryceville, Fla. passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the Earl Be. Hadlow Hospice Center in Jacksonville, Fla. following a lengthy illness. He was born in Jacksonville, Fla., the son of the late James Gray Cross and the former Annie Parthenia Bryce-Cross, pioneering Nassau County residents. Mr. Cross was a WWII veteran and was employed with the Seaboard Coastline Railroad, retiring after thirty-four years of service. His memberships include Bryceville Methodist Church, an active participant in the Baldwin Methodist Church, and was a master bladesmith, carpenter, and artist. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years, Janice Walker Cross, and is survived by his children; Annie Cross Spell, his two sons, Logan Cross and John Warren Cross; one granddaughter, Jennifer Nelson Cope; great-granddaughter, Catherine Thompson.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Bryceville United Methodist Church, located on Church Street in Bryceville, Fla. The family received friends Thursday, June 22, 2000, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the preservation fund of the Bryceville Methodist Church c/o Julia DePauw, 318 D.B. Hicks Road, Bryceville, Fla. 32009, in lieu of flowers.
