She grew up in the Eufaula area. She married Elmer L. Phipps on Nov. 11, 1928 in Eufaula and had lived in Pryor for 20 years where she operated a cafe before moving to McAlester in 1972. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Helen Harris of Tulsa, Hazel Alene Williams of Colorado, Terry Johnson of McAlester; two sons, Elmer LeRoy Phipps of McAlester and John Phipps of Locust Grove. She was preceded in death by a son, Norman Lawson Phipps; a daughter, Marion Louise Simpson; two sisters and five brothers. Graveside services were held Monday, April 24, 1995.
