Washburn Chipman was born in Bastard Township, Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada, on April 16, 1829. Died in American Fork, Utah on November 1, 1926, in his 98th year. Father of 26 children. A Utah Pioneer of 1847. An Indian War veteran and Church worker.
- President of 67th Quorum of the Seventies.
- Served in the Indian Wars and rose to the rank of Colonel.
- Sent to Iron County by Bigham Young where he assisted in building the Parowan Canal.
- He was a successful stockman and farmer. He brought the first reaper to American Fork, Utah.
- A director and one of the first organizers of Zion's Cooperative Mercantile Institution, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Provo Woolen Mills, Provo, Utah. Director of American Fork Coop Store and Sheepman's organization.
- He was a benefactor and an empire builder.
