Mr. Gary Eugene Biggerstaff, 58, of 2075 Raleigh Road, Eldorado, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, peacefully at Doctors Nursing and Rehab, Salem.

He was the husband of Mary (Horn) Biggerstaff.

Gary was born in Eldorado on June 6, 1949, the son of the late George and Neva Lois (Allen) Biggerstaff.


He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Eldorado. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant during the Vietnam War. He worked as an auto mechanic at his business, The Auto-Transmetic.

Gary graduated Eldorado High School in 1967 and Southern Illinois University in 1969. He served on several committees at his church including chairman of the trustees. He was also a choir member, Sunday School leader, lay leader of Stewardship, Council Ministries, Board and Council. Gary was also a member of the American Legion.

Gary is survived by two daughters, Belinda Biggerstaff of Golconda and Charlotte Biggerstaff of Washington state; a stepson, Billy (Michelle) Duncan of Eldorado; two sisters, Carrie Mae (Virgil) Lewis of Cave-In-Rock, Lois Ann (Allen) Allen of Louisiana; a brother, Roy (Debbie) Biggerstaff of Omaha; eight grandchildren, Robert McDermott, Amanda McDermott, Richard McDermott, Waynetta Burpo, Connor Burpo, Cody Duncan, Kendra Duncan, Skylar Duncan; and several nieces and nephews.



In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a brother, George Allen Biggerstaff; and a stepson David Duncan.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Eldorado, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, with the Rev. Julie Allison and the Rev. Dean Blackburn officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church and can be left at the funeral home.
