Funeral services will be conducted at the Mountain View Mausoleum in Reno, NV on December 12, at 1:00 p.m. for Joseph Marko "Joe" Basta, who died December 2, 2003 in Portland, OR, at the age of 87.

Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Born to Marko and Stella Basta on March 20, 1916 in McGill, NV, Joe was raised in McGill and Ruth, NV, and attended public schools in McGill and Ely, NV. As a young man, Joe was an avid pilot and aircraft enthusiast. He worked as an electrician and lineman for the Nevada Consolidated Copper Mines in Ruth, NV, until the early 1940's and then as an electrician for the Bethlehem Shipyard in San Francisco during WWII. During the 40's and 50's, he worked for various electrical contractors in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Reno. He was the owner and operator of Nevada Electric Company in Reno for 20 years. He remained very active until his death. He will be greatly missed.
Brothers Nikola, Mike, Dan, Sam, and George, and sisters Mildred and Ann preceded Joe in death. Survivors include sons, Joel and Edward; daughter-in-law Cathy; granddaughters, Amaya ana Matea; sister, Mary; and wife Lena, from whom he was separated.
