Benjamin F. Arthur, the son of Aaron Arthur and Mara Zimmerman, was a Civic War veteran. At the age of 31, Benjamin enlisted as a Private in Company K, Ohio 174th Infantry Regiment on 14 September 1864, and mustered out on 28 June 1865 at Charlotte, North Carolina.

Benjamin married his 1st wife Mary M. Williamson, the daughter of Mary Linder and John Williamson. They were married on January 13th, 1859 in Marion County, Ohio. They had five known children together that all died young.

After the death of Benjamin's 1st wife, he married Mary Catherine Butcher, also her 2nd marriage. They were married on June 8th, 1902 in Indiana.
