Carolyn Lee Adams, 76, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital, York.

She was born in Waynesboro on March 22, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Edward Lee and Evelyn Mary (Butterbaugh) Adams. She graduated from Waynesboro Senior High School in 1958 and went on to receive her B.A. in education from Millersville University and M.A. in education from Western Maryland College.

Carolyn was an active member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, serving on the Worship Committee, Pre-school Committee, and Music Committee. She was a beloved English and History teacher at Susquehannock High School, where she also coached men's and women's volleyball, leading to a 1974 state title for the girls. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, having visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Great Britain, and Ireland.

Carolyn is survived by her sister, Emily Lowry of Waynesboro; three nephews, Thomas Lowry (Laurie) of Waynesboro, Andrew Lowry (Selina) of Waynesboro, and Matthew Adams of Washington state; two nieces, Joanne Lowry (Matt Murray) of Alexandria, VA and Suzanne Boyd of Washington state; five great-nieces and nephews, Bryan Lowry (Krista), Kevin and Ella Lowry, Michael and Kate Murray; and her longtime friend, Mary Lou Schumacher of York and her daughters, Megan Schumacher of Philadelphia, and Andrea Schumacher of Washington, D.C. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward L. Adams.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 2164 Mount Zion Road, York, with the Rev. Brian A. McClinton officiating. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private in Mount Zion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susquehannock High School Scholarship Fund, 3280 Fissels Church Road, Glen Rock, PA 17327.
