David H. Rupp, 78, died Jan. 11, 2018, at his home near Salida.

He was born Sept. 2, 1939, to Henry and Gertrude Rupp in Colorado Springs, where his father taught him the plumbing trade in his early teens.

After joining the U.S. Air Force, he met and married Sharon Ann “Sherri” Sansen. They had six daughters.

In 1969 the family relocated to Salida, where he established Rupp Plumbing Co., later changing the name to Alpha Plumbing.

Mr. Rupp enjoyed the solitude of their home in Bear Creek, his animals, backpacking with his daughters and grandsons, reading, good classical music and “Far Side” cartoons.

His family said he was referred to by several of his longtime Christian brothers as “a contender for the faith.”

Mr. Rupp was preceded in death by his daughters Jennifer Michelle Rupp and Abigail Jean Rupp.

Survivors include his wife; daughters Laura (Chuck) Ballard, Jynene (Dave) Hartman, Rebecca Rupp and Sharon Rupp; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A casual outdoor memorial for Mr. Rupp will be held for those who knew and loved him, at the Rupp home in Bear Creek at a later date.

Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home in Salida.
