Thomas was the son of Daniel Webster Allen and Emma L. Newborn. The family resided mostly in Fulton and Gwinnett Counties, Georgia. Based on what few records exist, Thomas was single with no known children.

Per Thomas' WWI Service Card, we learn the following about his terribly short life:

Full Christian name: Thomas M. Allen
POB: Duluth, Georgia
Age: 19 yrs
Army serial #: 1,346,094
Race: white
Residence: Clarkston, DeKalb Co., Georgia
Enlist date: July 1, 1917 at Atlanta, Georgia
Service: CO A 5 GA MG, CO A 122 INF until Feb. 8, 1918.
MG CO 122 INF until May 20, 1918
CO A 122 INF until his death, July 8, 1919
Rank: Private
Engagements: this section was left blank, presumably Thomas died before he made it to the front lines.
Served overseas: again, left blank. The majority of his unit's training took place in Georgia and therefore, Georgia is his most likely place of death.
COD: Septicemia (this occurs when there is a bacterial infection in the body. This condition develops and spreads quickly as the toxins are carried via the blood stream).
