Acker, Rose Kathleen Walp

Rose Kathleen Walp Acker, 65, went to be with her Lord escorted by the prayers of her family and friends on April 18, 2019 after a hard-fought four-year battle with brain cancer. She was born on July 1, 1953 to Lee and Nancy (Kleckner) Walp. She attended Cambridge Springs schools and graduated in 1971. She received an associate degree at Keystone Jr. College near Scranton, Pa. and worked full and part time at Meadville Medical center for over 30 years in various parts of the lab while raising her family. She married David Acker in 1973, and he survives. They have two children, a daughter Jessica Lewis and her husband Dave of Saegertown, and their children Cali, Owen, and Truett, and a son Mark Acker and his wife Mandy of Miamisburg, Ohio and their children Blair, Hadley, Emmett, and Deacon.

Rose was a lifelong member of the Venango United Methodist church and very active on committees locally and in the district. She served as missions chairperson at Venango several years and was able to travel overseas to Jamaica and Paraguay on mission trips, as well as many here at home. She was on the board of the Pregnancy center of Meadville an served as secretary for several years. She was also involved in Stephen ministries. She had a big heart for serving others. She and Dave were able to spend the last five winters in Sebring, Florida where they made several good and caring friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her father Lee Walp, an infant sister Marlene, and her mother Nancy Walp Ewing.

She is survived by three sisters, Darlene Senft and her husband Alan of Three Springs, Pa. Bonita Krider and her husband Earl of Meadville, Pa. Denette Adams and her husband Ed of Saegertown, Pa. and a brother Blaine Walp of Saegertown, Pa.

A reception will be held at Venango United Methodist Church social room from 2:00 to 4:00 and 5:30 to 7:00 on Wednesday April 24th with a memorial celebration to follow at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, Rose would like donations made to Venango UM Church, Pregnancy Center of Meadville, Hospice of Crawford County or the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute.

Interment will be at a later time at the family’s convenience at Reichel Cemetery on Grange Center Road.
