He served with honor in both the United States Navy (Hospital Corpsman) and United States Army (Medic). After serving in the US Navy, he was drafted into the US Army (he like many, like him, are the reason once you have served and been honorably discharged can no longer be drafted into a War/Conflict). He was injured in Vietnam while being shot at, climbing up a ladder into a helio. (He earned a Purple Heart for this). Also while in Vietnam, he was shot in his knee and chest, all leaving lasting fragments within. He was a life member of VFW Post #8275, AuGres, and DAV, Bay City.
Albert was survived by his 2 daughters, Patricia (wife of Marty)Basalyga of PA, and Tamara (Adams of MI. Also surviving are 2 granddaughters, 3 grandsons and 2 great grandsons: Samantha Ronk-Basalyga, Clinton Ronk, Colton Ronk, Rachel(wife of Jon)Williams, Kenneth Miller and C.W. and G.W.; his sister, Prudence "Prudy" (wife of Kenneth)Bannick of Bay City; a niece, 4 nephews, 1 great niece and 1 great nephew: Connie (wife of Mark)Kemner of East Pointe, Dale (husband to Cathy)Bannick of Bay City, Dean (husband to Joyce)Bannick of Bay City, David Bannick of Saginaw, Dennis (husband to Tammy)Bannick of Danville,VA, Abigail Kemner and Cameron Kemner of East Pointe. As well as many aunts and uncles.
The funeral service was held at 10am on Friday 27 Jul 2007 at New Hope Baptist Church, Bay City. Pastor Ross Lucas officiated. His burial is at Great Lakes National Cemetery, in Holly, Michigan. He had both religious and Native American services at his burial.
