Joseph M. Rhoades, 82, died Sunday afternoon at Munson Medical Center.
He was the retired owner and operator of M. C. Collision Service in Detroit, where he lived most of his life. He began his retirement in 1966 when he moved to Duck Lake. He was a life member of East Gate Masonic Lodge No. 520 in Detroit. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was born in Millers Creek, N.C. on Dec. 11, 1903, to James Andrew and Mary Jane (Bumgarner) Rhoades.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Pettengill Rhoades, in 1976, a stepson, Bud Pettengill, and three brothers.
Surviving are a son, James Rhoades, of Plymouth; a step-daughter, Vera Bush, of Southfield; three sisters, Priscilla Brooks, Vira Church and Marybelle Elledge, all of Millers Creek, N.C.; five grand children and seven great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hibbard Funeral Chapel in Traverse City, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Donald O. Spachman will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia.
Memorials may be directed to the Grawn Volunteer Fire Department.
