Joseph Martin Baum Sr., 61, Topeka, died Thursday, May 7, at a local hospital.
Mr. Baum was a pipe fitter for Santa Fe Railway until he retired. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was born Oct. 3, 1925 in Topeka, the son of Ralph M. and Elizabeth M. Kaberline Baum and had lived in Topeka all his life.
Mr. Baum was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Philip Billard VFW Post 1650 and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion, all in Topeka.
He married Theresa Marie Engroff Nov. 25, 1950 in Topeka. She died in 1973.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Annette Lester, Topeka; two sons, Joseph J. Baum Jr., Carbondale, and Stephen R. Baum, Topeka; his father; his stepmother, Augusta Baum, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Rosemary Hackett, Topeka; and nine grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Baum will lie in sate from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Brennan Funeral Home where rosaries will be recited by the Daughters of Isabella at 7 p.m. and the parish at 7:30 p.m. today.
