Mrs. Bertha Likkel of Lynden died at her Meadow Greens home under the loving care of her family, Meadow Greens staff and Hospice, on Saturday, April 10. She was 92.

Bertha was the daughter of Teake and Maggie (Maas) DeJong and was born in New Holland, South Dakota on January 12, 1912. She grew up in South Dakota and was married there to George Likkel on February 22, 1933. During the depression in 1936 Bertha and George moved west and settled in Lynden in 1942.

A homemaker, Bertha also helped her husband with their implement business and was a member of the Third Christian Reformed Church. Bertha's love for Jesus was evident in her enjoyment of, and participation in, Bible studies until her recent illness. She shared that love in her gift of hospitality with her large family and many friends. Bertha was also well known for her crocheting and Swedish weaving.

Besides her parents, Bertha was preceded by her husband in 1999 and several brothers, sisters and in-laws.
