Wayne Bouzek
December 13, 1929 - March 29, 2020

Wayne M. Bouzek was born December 13, 1929 in Highmore, SD and passed away on March 29, 2020, with his wife, Elaine, by his side.

Wayne attended the North Eden rural school and obtained an Associate Degree from the School of Agriculture in Brookings, SD. Along with completing many training schools in the Air Force he served as part of an engine maintenance crew on B-25s and C-47s.

Serving 20 years in the Air Force, Wayne was active duty for the Korean War, the Cuban Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. He retired in 1971.

His service in the Air Force took him all over the world and firmly planted the seed for his love to travel. He continued with his travels after his retirement and loved to say he had been two-thirds of the way around the world visiting every state and many other countries.

Wayne married Leora Bush in Ellsworth, MI in 1957 while they were both on active duty. Leora passed away in 2000. Wayne "re-met" Elaine Perkins Roberts and they were married in 2001 in Highmore, SD. Elaine had been Wayne's first girlfriend and they considered their reacquaintance a miracle.

Wayne loved collecting...almost everything...his favorites were coins and Hummel figurines. He felt strongly about recycling and repurposing everything and being a good steward of the land. He was also a staunch supporter of Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD. Wayne had been an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Rapid City, the Veterans of Foreign War and The Retired Enlisted Association .

Throughout his years he could often be found working on the family farm in Hyde County. This continued after his retirement from the Air Force. If not at home in Rapid City or working on the farm he would travel...often taking friends or relatives along to enjoy the adventure.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Benjamin M. Bouzek and Violet E. Hanson Bouzek, his brother Eugene Bouzek and wife Annette, sister Edith Bouzek and first wife Leora Bush Bouzek.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine, nephew; niece; 3 stepchildren and numerous cousins.

Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
