Furman Gill Abbott, 87, a resident of 245 Kemps Lane, died Tuesday, March 03, 2020, at his home.

Born in Vance County on July 26, 1932, he was the son of the late Lonnie Jackson Abbott and Naomi Thompson Abbott.

Furman proudly served his county in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Waste Industries and was a member of Joy In The Lord Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 pm in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jeff Prewer and Rev. Ronnie Matthews. Burial will follow in Sunset Garden.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Riggan Abbott of the home; two daughters, Susan Abbott of the home and Teresa Hawkins (Eugene) of Norlina; one son, Dennis Abbott (Jan) of Henderson; one sister, Myrtle Grissom of Henderson; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; and several honorary grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great grandchild; two brothers; and two sisters. The family will receive friends Thursday prior to the service from 1 until 2 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
