Dorothy Aman passed away peacefully on January 3, 2020. Dorothy was born in rural Onslow County on April 16, 1935 to Buckner and Minnie Lee Petteway. Dorothy married Raymond Dewey Aman on June 17, 1950. They were married for thirty-seven years until his death in 1987. During their years together, they enjoyed traveling, going to the beach and fishing. Dorothy started her career with Carolina Telephone as an operator. She transferred to Southern Bell’s Raleigh office in the early 50s and worked as an operator and then a frame technician. She was promoted to management where she remained until her retirement in 1991. After her retirement from Southern Bell, Dorothy began working as a supervisor at WakeMed Hospital, earning her second retirement in 2013. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed gardening and spending time with her beloved dogs. She is survived by her son Ray and wife Sarah, two grandchildren Chris Aman and wife Tricia, and Jenny Gorman and husband Chad all of Zebulon. She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren D’Arcy Aman, Mattox Aman, Reagan Gorman and Madison Gorman. Dorothy was proceeded in death by her parents, Buckner and Minnie Lee Petteway and her sister Eugenia Frances Petteway. Funeral services will be held at White Oak Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 2:00p.m. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service. A graveside service will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Transitions LifeCare, Philanthropy Department, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
