Obituary in The Chattanooga Times Free Press:
" Mary Louise Schuhmacher Shadwick, 75, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007.
Mrs. Shadwick was born on Jan. 21, 1932, in Soddy-Daisy. Mary, as she was known by her family and friends, put a lot of love and life in the dash between her years. She was known as an outstanding athlete playing basketball, softball, and volleyball including the Senior Olympics at the age of 65.
She graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School in 1950 and as a condition of marriage to her husband, Joe, went on to earn a BS from the University of Chattanooga, masters from Middle Tennessee State University, and an advanced degree from UC.
She and Joe were hired as teachers on the same day in 1955 by the Chattanooga Public School system, and retired 35 years later having touched the lives of countless young people in the East Lake community. She was a member of the Daisy Woman's Club and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Soddy-Daisy as co-teacher of the Joy Class.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Michael Allen Shadwick; her sister, Betty Narrimore ; father, Joe Schuhmacher; and mother, Clarcy Schuhmacher Henderson.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Joe A. Shadwick ; son, William J. Shadwick, and his wife, Ruth Ann Shadwick; two granddaughters, Lindsay and Lacy Shadwick, all of Soddy-Daisy ; one sister, Sue Wilkey, of Dayton Mountain ; brother and sister-in-law, Billy M. and Shirley Shadwick, of Soddy-Daisy ; sister-in-law, Jane Buckner, of Sale Creek; sister-in-law, Susie Shadwick, of Nicholasville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel with Dr. Seton Tomyn, Pastor Bobby Davis and her niece, the Rev. Sherry Harris officiating.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home...."
