Award Winning Film Composer. Born Ernst Sigmund Goldner, he attended the Viennese Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst in 1938, but due to his family's Jewish heritage, he and his family immigrated to the U.S. after the Nazi Anschluss in Austria. He was the first husband of Marni Nixon, and the father of the late musician and singer-songwriter Andrew Gold. Ernest composed music for movies such as; "Exodus" (1960), "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" (1963), "The Screaming Skull" (1958), "Unknown World" (1951), "The Last Sunset" (1961), "A Fever in the Blood" (1961), "On The Beach" (1959), The Secret of Santa Vittoria (1970), and Cross of Iron (1977), just to name a few. A Golden Globe and two-time Oscar and Grammy Award winner, he was the first composer to have his name engraved on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He died due to complications of a stroke.
