BIOGRAPHY

Mr. Stone was born in Petoskey, Michigan and graduated from Petoskey High School. He and his family once lived on Boulder Avenue in Rosedale (a resort community on the edge of the Bay View Association now a part of the City of Petoskey).

He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and served as president at one time. He was also a member of the Michigan Funeral Directors, the American Association of Foresters and the Michigan Foresters Association.

Since the age of 12, Mr. Stone had been active in the Boy Scouts in Petoskey and was instrumental in starting Troop 5 at the Methodist Church in '1926. He was appointed Scoutmaster at its inception and remained in that position for 12 years. In 1939 when the Scenic Trails Council was incorporated, he was appointed to the execute board of the council and served as district commissioner of the Northern District. In 1946 he received the Silver Beaver Award, an honorary degree for his active participation in scouting.

He was also active in civic affairs, serving on the Petoskey City Council as First Ward Councilman, an was former director of the Chamber of Commerce, and was past chairman of the Emmet County Red Cross. He was also active in the Community Chest and had been an office of the Camp Daggett Association. Mr. Stone also served on the board of the Salvation Army for 40 years.

Mr. Stone died unexpectedly while cutting wood on his property in Cheboygan County.

Like his father before him, he and his father before him, are remembered by many as the long time owner of Stone Funeral Home.
