Services will be Saturday for Santa Cruz resident Wilhelmina Shoemaker Gorter, who died Aug. 26 after a lengthy illness at the Brommer Manor Convalescent Hospital. She was 85.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Mrs. Gorter was a member of the First Congregational Church of Santa Cruz. She worked for Leask's department store for at least 20 years. There, she earned a certificate of appreciation from the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce in 1973 for being the most courteous clerk.

Mrs. Gorter enjoyed music and playing the piano. She also liked to travel and go camping.

She is survived by her husband of seven years, Cornelius "Neil" Gorter of Santa Cruz; her sisters-in-law, Anna Van Aalst of Santa Ana and Dorothy Shoemaker of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church of Santa Cruz, 900 High St., Santa Cruz. Private burial will be at Santa Cruz Memorial Park & Funeral Home mausoleum. Santa Cruz Memorial Park & Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
