Kenneth Adkins, age 92, Erwin, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2019 at Governor's Bend while he was surrounded by his family. He was born in Yancey County, NC but lived most of his life in Unicoi County. Kenneth was a son of the late Deckard Adkins and Lockey Jane Adkins.

He was a devoted Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Kenneth was a Deacon for forty-one years at Riverview Freewill Baptist Church and present member of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church. He was a dedicated Prayer Warrior for all people he knew or met.

Kenneth worked at Clinchfield Railroad for thirty-seven and a half years. He loved farming. Kenneth was a Unicoi County Farm Bureau President for seventeen years, and Vice President for twenty-four years. He was a member of Clinchfield Credit Union Board of Directors for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Net Adkins; two brothers: Dee Adkins and Stewart Adkins; four sisters: Eva Adkins, Lala Pervis, Rosella Hughes and Juanita Murphy; brother-in-law, Edwin Bailey.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of seventy years, Louise Bailey Adkins; one daughter, Judy Adkins Sorenson (Mike), Erwin; grandson, Garry Lane Phillips, II (Jessica), Knoxville; three great grandchildren: Maggie, Reid and Raylan Phillips, Knoxville; two sisters: Phyllis Edwards and Dale Miller, both of NC; one brother, Ralph Adkins (Carol), NC; brother-in-law, Roland Bailey (Linda), Erwin; two sisters-in-law: Betty Adkins and Jenny Bailey, both of Erwin; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Gary Amos.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM on Sunday, November 10, 2019 in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Alan King, Reverend David Foster and Reverend Noah Taylor will officiate at the 3:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler, Gary Amos and David Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be Directors of Farm Bureau and Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class. Committal will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 11, 2019 in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 AM on Monday.

Flowers will be accepted however, those wishing may donate bibles in memory of Kenneth through Gideons International.
