Charles was preceded in death by his beloved son, Eugene as well as Betty, his loving wife of 58 years.
He will be lovingly missed by his children Mike (Carol) Abbott, Patty (Leo) Flanagan, Bob Abbott, Janet (Todd) Dravk and Karen (Matt) Rector; nine grandchildren (four with whom he shared a very special bond); three great-grandchildren; and his siblings Sue Franklin, Mary Lou VanTubergen, Ruth Vanderstilt, Larry Abbott, Stanley Abbott, Pat Abbott and Roger Abbott. He will also be dearly missed by his little buddy Boston. They shared a bond like no other.
Charles was a dedicated family man and loved having his great-grandchildren Jack, Blakely and Roczen over for sleepovers. He was an avid Tigers fan, loved the outdoors and spent many years hunting.
He was very proud to have served in the Korean Conflict as a military police officer. He retired from Lamar Pipe (Premarc) after 40 years of loyal service.
Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2019 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building) with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charles to Wounded Warrior Project.
