Aug. 13, 1951 - Aug. 15, 2019
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Stephanie Garner-Abba. Stephanie passed Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, at 68 years old, with her son and mother by her side.
Stephanie was a loving mother who dedicated her life to her three children.
She was also devoted to the children of the Portland Public School District, where she spent 34 years educating, nurturing, empowering and helping hundreds of students with special needs thrive.
Recently becoming a retiree, Stephanie enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, visiting the coast and had a fondness for animals, particularly dogs.
Stephanie was a beautiful, incredibly supportive, selfless, loving, compassionate and kind woman, with an energy that soothed those around her. She was diligent in her care taking and made sure those she loved knew it, from baking seasonal cookies to frequently sending her children personalized care packages, wherever they were living.
We take solace in knowing she was greeted and welcomed in heaven, with open arms by her father, Walter Garner and her former husband, Dr. Boniface Abba. We are positive she is the one, lovingly comforting them, in true Stephanie form.
Stephanie leaves behind her mother, Mary Plancich; children, Joshua Abba, Elanya and Alissa Abba; brothers, Marc and Jeffery and their families.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at Zeller Chapel of the Roses, 2107 N.E. Broadway St., Portland.
In lieu of flowers please make donations on behalf of our mother to the Oregon Humane Society.
