A 78-year-old Chesnee man was killed in a traffic accident in Chesnee on Friday.
Rev. Clyde Harmon Atkins died following the 11:55 a.m. accident on Parris Bridge Road in Spartanburg County, 10 miles north of Spartanburg, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Atkins, who was a retired minister, has relatives in Gaffney including a daughter, Madge Eva Price, and a brother, Hollis Atkins.
Atkins was operating a 1988 Plymouth four-door vehicle southbound on Parris Bridge Road when a northbound 1994 Ford Explorer driven by Kathy Overcash of Chesnee crossed the center line and struck Atkins' vehicle head-on, according to the Highway Patrol.
Atkins was not wearing a seat belt. Overcash, who was restrained, was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, authorities said.
