Charles William "Bud" Atkinson, a beloved husband and father has passed and is now in the company of his pre-deceased grandson and our fallen hero "DJ". Charles was pronounced dead on Tuesday, July 3rd, in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Elk Twp., NJ in 1926, "Bud" is survived by Dolores, his wife of 44 years; his four daughters Karen(Bill)Henry, Kimberly Atkinson, Ann(Paul)Fuscio and Mary(John)Moore; three sons, Darryl(Lora)Atkinson, Steven and Michael(Caroline)Reska and 8 grandchildren.
"Bud" lived most of his life in Clayton, NJ. He was a part of what many consider to be America's Greatest Generation. He served his country for 3 years and was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions in battle during the Korean War. Following the war "Bud" entered the plumbing business until he ultimately retired as a custodian from Delsea Regional High School in 1992. As a lifelong citizen of Clayton "Bud" was an active member of the VFW and Elks Lodge.
Never one to put himself first, "Bud's" entire life was one of selfless sacrifice. For all the wonderful things he did, he will always be remembered, for those he helped and the deeds he did without ever asking for anything in return.
On June 20, 2007, Mr. Atkinson's grandson, Pfc. David J. Bentz III was killed in action in Iraq.
They are both buried in the same cemetery.
