On September 3, Joe went to meet his Lord. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family at the age of 76.
Joe is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 47 years, Eva. Joe is also survived by his sister, Pat Czepiel; brother, Richard and wife Maria Czepiel of Deep River, CT; and brother, Peter and wife Denise Czepiel of Windsor, ME. When marrying Eva, he was welcomed into another family. He is survived by brothers/sisters-in-law: Bill and Carol Stanton of Melbourne, FL; Maurice and Jane Fritz of Canton, TX; Gerry and Eileen Stanton of Palm Bay, FL; and David and Martha Stanton of Standish, ME. He will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and too many friends to name. He was the son of Joseph J. (Sr.) and Helen Czepiel, both deceased, of Deep River CT. He was like a son to his mother-in-law, Helen Stanton, also deceased, formerly of Standish, ME.
Joe was a carpenter and craftsman who loved his work; he took pride in what he did and had a high commitment to quality. Joe built many homes, but one of his greatest accomplishments was the final home that he built in Leland, NC, with his favorite worker, Eva, by his side. Joe was an avid reader and had an amazingly inquisitive mind. Joe’s hobbies included target shooting and classic cars. He was a member of Connecticut Chevelle Connection and Sun Coast Cruisers of Wilmington, NC.
Joe was exceptionally generous and liked nothing more than helping someone with whatever they needed. He was a member of Wrightsboro United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including the Board of Trustees. This gentle, loving, caring and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund of Wrightsboro United Methodist Church, 3300 N Kerr Ave, Wilmington, NC 28405.
