Mary E. Kirkpatrick was born at Freeport, Illinois, November 30, 1846. She was united in marriage to J.S. Blakesley on March 27, 1864. They traveled extensively, but located in Kansas in 1876. They lived in Kansas until the opening of Oklahoma, coming here on the opening day and located on a claim about three miles southeast of Mulhall, where they resided until a few months before her death, at which time she came to Mulhall to take treatment. There was born to Mr. and Mrs. Blakesley, ten children; six sons and three daughters are living; one dead. All living children were present at the funeral, except one son, who lives at Wakita. He started, but missed train connections, and was unable to get here in time. Mrs. Blakesley's ailment was stomach trouble, and every kind of treatment was tested for her, but there seemed no relief, and, gradually, in spite of all that medical attention and devoted care could do, wasted away, the end coming on the evening of March 21, 1910. The funeral was held from the First Christian church here, the funeral services being in charge of Elder C.C. Atwood, who had just closed a series of meetings at the church. Interment took place immediately at the closed of the service at Roselawn Cemetery. Mulhall State Journal

Mrs. J.S. Blakesley Dead

Mrs. John S. Blakesley breathed her last at 6:30 last Monday evening, March 21. For weeks and months this event has been looked for by her family and friends, and for nearly a year she had herself become reconciled to the fact that no human help could give her relief and that her end was near. She became resigned and patient under great suffering and to her, death was welcome.

With her husband and family, she was an early settler in Oklahoma when they settled on the farm two miles southeast of Mulhall, which has been their home since.

Mary Ellen Kirkpatrick was born at Freeport, Ill., Nov. 30, 1846 and was married to John S. Blakesley March 27, Easter Sunday, 1864. From Illinois they moved to Hamilton county, Iowa, from there to Kansas and then to Oklahoma April 22, 1889.

To them were born ten children, of them nine are living and all but one was present at the funeral. Bailey Blakesley, who had but a few days before been here to see her, was unable to get here. Twenty-nine relatives followed the remains to their last resting place. Mr. and Mrs. Blakesley hold a remarkable record for the number of their grandchildren. At the time of their settlement here, April 22, 1889, they had none, but in that time 47 have been born into the families of their children, of these 36 are living. For some months she had been at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.J. Scott, where she died March 21, 1910.

The funeral took place from the Christian church of which she was a member. On Tuesday afternoon, Elder Atwood having charge, preached from Hebrews 11: 4. "He being dead yet speaketh." The theme being the power of good life after the body has been laid away."

The remains were followed by a large procession of relatives and friends to Rose Lawn Cemetery where the burial was made.
