Hall of Fame Professional Football Player. For twelve seasons (1970 to 1981), he played at the center and guard positions in the National Football League with the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings. He made his initial mark on the football field during his years at Royalton High School in Minnesota. He played collegiate football (middle linebacker) at South Dakota State University and achieved Honorable Mention All-American honors. A non-drafted player, he tried out with the Cleveland Browns, however he was let go prior to the start of the 1970 season. He signed with the Miami Dolphins and went on to anchor the offensive line as center for quarterbacks Bob Griese and Earl Morrall. Langer was a key contributor to Miami's capturing of the AFC Title (1971), their perfect 17-0 season, which culminated with the winning of Super Bowl VII (1973) and their Super Bowl VIII victory (1974). Individually, he achieved Pro-Bowl honors six times and All-Pro honors four times. He totaled 151 career regular season games. He was named to the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987. He is a charter member of the Miami Dolphins Walk of Fame. He died of complications from heart-related issues.
