"Aud" Archer, Advertising Official, Dies

A.N. "Aud" Archer, 67 owner-operator of Aud Archer Advertising here, died yesterday afternoon at his home at 2000 Bird Street, following an extended illness.

Born in Jackson County, July 7, 1904, he was the son of the late Dempsey and Anna Jane Somerville Archer. He was graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1922, and had attended Thiel College at Greenville, Pa. He was a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Archer had spent most of his lifetime in the advertising business, and was the first manager of a radio station in Marietta. Later he managed a radio station WCOM in Parkersburg. He was the founder and publisher of the Vienna Advertiser and for the past 15 years was owner-operator of Aud Archer Advertising. He was director of Community Papers of Ohio and West Virginia and was a member of the First Christian Church and the BPO Elks Lodge, No. 198.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Helen Knotts Archer; three sons, Kim of Philadelphia, Pa., Tim of Parkersburg, and Stephen, student at West Virginia University at Morgantown; four daughters, Mrs Vance (Ann) Howerton of Camp Lejeune, NC., Jane C. Archer a student at Glenville State College, and Cathryn Sue and Patti June, both at home; a grandson, Vance Bryan Howerton III; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Carson of Parkersburg; and a nephew, Gary Archer Carson of Columbus, OH.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home. The Rev. Norman Butler and the Rev. William Wolford will officiate and burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
