Major League Baseball Player. For eight seasons (1954, 1956 to 1962), he was a pitcher with the Boston Red Sox, Washington Senators, Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees. Born Truman Eugene Clevenger, he made his initial mark on the baseball diamond during his years at Visalia High School in California. He played collegiate baseball at California State University Fresno, before being signed as an amateur free agent by the Boston Red Sox in 1953. He made his Major League debut on April 18, 1954 with the Red Sox and pitched in 23 games that year. Mainly a reliever during his career, he was signed by the Los Angeles Angels during the 1961 MLB Expansion Draft and had the distinction as being on the Angels' roster during their inaugural season (1961). He was acquired by the Yankees during the 1961 season and went on to experience two world championship runs with New York (1961 and 1962), however he did not see postseason action. In 307 career regular season games, he compiled a 36 win, 37 loss record with a lifetime 4.18 ERA, in 694 innings pitched. After retiring from baseball, he worked in the insurance industry and later owned a car dealership. He died of complications from Alzheimer's disease.
