Husband George started repairing bicycles and motorcycles in 1931. He was just 21 years old and started his first dealership in Elizabeth, New Jersey with an investment of $500. The Harley-Davidson dealership was named Adamec Cycle Sales Company, Inc. After marriage, Julia joined the Adamec motorcycle family. She participated in local women's motorcycle clubs and even won a trophy for riding skills at the 1939 World's Fair in New York.
