Theodore James "Ted" Bowman, age 91, of Ocala, FL died peacefully Sunday September 24, 2017 after increasing health problems over the last six months.

A resident of Ocala since 1966, Ted was born in Beardstown, IL on October 5, 1925 to Theodore Jacob and Edith Ester Bowman (Wheeler). He served in the Navy as a quartermaster aboard a submarine during WWII. He moved to Chicago, IL where he met Arlene Peterson, a pattern designer, who had moved to Chicago from her hometown of Swea City, IA. They married in Chicago in 1950.

Ted served in the Air Force as a weather forecaster during the Korean War, stationed in Topeka, Kansas as well as other US cities. He later worked for a home truss business in Miami FL, where he designed and patented a truss manufacturing machine. In 1966 Ted and Arlene moved to Ocala, FL where he founded Bo-Jack Industries, a mobile home truss company. Ted eventually sold that business and purchased Ocala Saw and Tool and formed a another business, Band Saw Blades Inc. He managed those businesses until and into his retirement.

In his spare time, Ted enjoyed tennis, sailing, camping, and flying. Both Ted and Arlene were active in the Ocala Sailing Club and the Fort King Tennis Center. After he and Arlene divorced in 1984, they remained friends and attended family events together. In his retirement, Ted enjoyed taking cruises and more years of flying as a private pilot.

Ted will be fondly remembered for his generosity, wit, inventiveness and love of playing Dominos with his family in his recent years.

Ted is survived by his former spouse Arlene, his children Theodore Jay Bowman and his wife, Claudia (Ramage), of Ocala and Ann Margaret Donie and her husband, Chris, of Johns Creek GA, his grandchildren: Eric Smith and wife Jennie, Adam Smith and wife Beth, Kate Donie, and Alyssa Donie, plus his great-grandchildren Chase, Chylei, Gavin, Austin, Dillan, Trystan, Lincoln, Declan, Ryker, Jagger, and Cullen.
