Joaquim Tavares Alvarenga, “Jackie” (October 3, 1952-February 20, 2019)

Providence, RI native, Joaquim Tavares Alvarenga, age 66, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.

Joaquim, most commonly known as “Jackie,” is survived by his beloved mother, Palmira DaSilva Goncalves and his sister, Joann Peareara of Providence. He is further survived by his nephews, Hubert Eaves V and Jordan Peareara; and his nieces, Jazmin Eaves and Jaylin Eaves, as well as a host of other relatives and good friends.

Jackie was born on October 3, 1952 in Providence to Palmira DaSilva Goncalves and the late Lino Tavares Alvarenga, both originally from the Cape Verde Islands.

Jackie was well known throughout the South Side of Providence for his wildly unique personality and style. Everyone knew Jackie for wearing hats; whether a cap or a fedora, it didn’t matter. Jackie always put his own twist on any outfit.

Jackie was extremely close to his mother Palmira.

He had a vibrant personality and cared deeply for his family. His life, spirit, and soul were and will forever be remembered as one of joy. Jackie’s distinctively raspy voice always told a joke, or shared wisdom with those around him. I dare you to find a person in Jackie’s circle who was feeling down or just having a bad day, that he could not make laugh hysterically, and often inappropriately... that’s just who he was.

If Jackie’s name was ever mentioned in a conversation, those who knew him well waited for the laugh out loud ending.

Jackie never pretended to be a perfect person, as a matter of fact, he openly displayed his imperfections.

His infectious smile and love for music and dancing will forever be with us. If we walk away with nothing else during this celebration of Jackie’s life, let us at the very least remember to laugh and find the joy within those you love; and most importantly, ride this precious life until the wheels fall off!

Jackie will be greatly missed by all family and friends.

His viewing was held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Bell Funeral Home.

Arrangements entrusted to Bell Funeral Home, Providence, RI.
