Early Life: Karen was born October 19, 1960, in Provo, Utah, to William “Bud” Cowley and Marilyn Brown Cowley, the youngest of four children and the only daughter. She graduated from Orem High School in 1978.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: She attended Brigham Young University, where she met and married Edward Morgan Payne; they had seven children. Karen was a wonderful mother and homeschooled all her children. She enjoyed cooking, camping and family gatherings. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Karen also enjoyed indexing for the Church. She recently celebrated indexing/arbitrating over one million names. She loved the Christmas Season and enjoyed collecting nativity sets. She was known for her quiet generosity and service. She had a tender heart for children, especially her grandchildren. Karen shared her love through crocheting and gifting over 150 handmade baby afghans. She had a gift of touching people’s lives with her musical talents through singing or accompanying others on the piano or organ. She left a legacy of music by teaching all seven of her children how to play the piano and her grandchildren as well. Karen Marie Cowley Payne, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on May 23, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 58.
Survived By: Her loving husband, Edward Morgan Payne; her children: Brian (Heather), Janalee Fish (Eric), Rebecca Silva (Tony), Deborah, Stephanie Clifford (Cory), Cameron (Lisa), and Marisa; her 11 grandchildren; her father, William “Bud” Cowley; three brothers: Mark (Karalean), Blair (Lisa) and Dale (Annette); and her mother-in-law, Jaynann Morgan Payne.
Preceded In Death By: Her beloved mother, Marilyn Brown Cowley.
