Actor. Best known for playing the role of Captain Lee B. Crane in the 1964 television series "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and Felix Leiter in the James Bond movie franchise. Born Albert David Hedison, Jr., he used the name Al Hedison in his early acting career in theater and film. At the request of NBC, he changed his stage name to David Hedison when he was cast as Victor Sebastian in the television series "Five Fingers" (1959). He played the lead role of Captain Crane in the science fiction series "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea," which was based on the 1961 film of the same name. The show ran for four seasons from to 1964 to 1968. He guest starred on multiple television shows, such as "Perry Mason," "The Saint," "Shaft," "Medical Center," "Ellery Queen," and "Barnaby Jones." He had recurring roles on several soap operas, portraying Roger Landon on "The Colbys" (1985 - 1989), Spencer Harrison on "Another World" (1992), and Arthur Hendricks on "The Young and the Restless" (2004). He was cast in the 1958 horror movie "The Fly" as Andre Delcambre, the scientist who turns into a human fly after a lab accident. His other most notable film appearances were as CIA agent Felix Leiter in two James Bond films, "Live and Let Die" (1973) and "License to Kill" (1989).
