Lois Ams, of Tulsa, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the age of 85.
Lois was born Wednesday, February 14, 1934 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Kurt and Iva (Herring) Matschulat. She was the fourth of six girls born into a preacher's home. There was always a lot of music in the house and Lois learned hospitality from their family hosting all of the visiting evangelists and parishioners that came by.

Lois attended Central Bible Institute where she sang in the Revivaltime Choir (an auditioned choir who ministered each week on a radio broadcast and toured across the country to give live performances in churches.) While at CBI, she met the love of her life, Ronald Ams in the lunch line! On March 31, 1956, Lois and Ron married in LeClaire, Iowa. They were married for 63 years and their union was blessed with 2 daughters.

Lois loved to stay busy and she was known as a woman who could do anything. She was a master seamstress who made clothes for her whole family, created designer drapes (learned from a professional), and earned blue ribbons for her beautiful quilts. She made "Positive Bags" for Hope Pregnancy Center to give out to girls who had made the brave decision to keep their babies.

Her church work was endless – directing choirs, teaching Sunday School, and playing organ with husband Ron on the piano. If there was a need, she filled it. She was a Bible scholar extraordinaire and there was no doubt she loved Jesus. Most recently, she played the organ most Sunday afternoons at Prairie Rose for the residents' church service and planned fun-filled parties for her Sunday school class at South Tulsa Baptist Church.

In 1971, Lois got her Bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University (Edwardsville) in Education and later continued on to obtain a Master's degree as well. Her teaching career spanned over 20 years in Collinsville, IL, teaching children in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. She was best known for the elaborate historical musicals where she taught the students to sing, act, and made all of the period costumes.

Speaking of history, genealogy was a passion for Lois. She found great satisfaction in putting the pieces together of her family and anyone else who had a curiosity about their past. She created books full of information and details about where she came from and spent hours researching on her computer. She met many distant relatives online and communicated with them regularly.

Lois' family will remember her best for her wonderful family dinners. She was famous for her spaghetti and meatballs, butter horn rolls, and beautifully decorated birthday cakes. In fact, she made extravagant wedding cakes for friends and family on a regular basis.
Those who knew Lois used words like "amazing", "problem solver", "fix-it person", "prayer warrior", and more. Her passing has left a big hole in the lives of her family and friends.

Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Hope Pregnancy Center at 13012 East 21st Street, Tulsa, OK 74137. Lois sewed many bags to be filled with baby supplies for the girls who made the brave decision to keep their babies.
