On Tuesday, July 9, 2019, Francisca Irma Alcantara Espinoza, loving wife and mother of eight children, passed away at the age of 91.
Francisca was born February 1, 1928 in Nogales, Sonora Mexico to Jacinto and Mercedes Espinoza. Growing up in Nogales Francisca enjoyed going to school. She loved reading and learning about history. She enjoyed visiting and vacationing with her many cousins in southern Sonora. Once grown to a respectable young woman Francisca met Armando Alcantara Arias in Nogales where they were married and soon immigrated to Nogales, Arizona. There Francisca and Armando started their family. Francisca stayed home with their eight children while Armando worked. It was not an easy task as their first born were twins one of which became afflicted with polio. Yet her love of learning led her to take evening English classes which she knew would help her to manage in their new country. Expanding their horizons Francisca and Armando with their children moved north to Tucson, Arizona. In Tucson Francisca became involved with the Headstart program with her younger sons. Francisca and Armando became members of a social community group and soon Francisca became an American citizen. Francisca ran her household with a strong yet gentle hand. She would rise early to make sure everyone was taken care of lining up breakfasts and lunches as necessary. Always blessing everyone as they left the house. Her word was law. Every morning she read the newspaper from front to back. She raised her children in the Catholic faith making sure all sacraments were commenced. She supported her children in all their choices. Francisca loved sports and was quite competitive. She was a beautiful lady both in and out. She loved everyone equally. We will miss our mother greatly.
Francisca was preceded in death by her parents Jacinto and Mercedes Espinoza. She is survived by her husband Armando Alcantara Arias, her children Isabel S. Carrillo and husband Ben R. Carrillo (children Isabel, Jamaal, Jabar), Virginia G. Alcantara (daughter Giovanna), Alma L. Najafian and husband Ardeshir Najafian (daughters Ajshia and Atash), Roxana Alcantara (son Joao), Teresa I. Alcantara-Nava and husband Edward Nava II (children Sabina and Omar), Baltazar A. Alcantara (daughter Celeste), Marco A. Alcantara and wife Lana Alcantara (son Mathias), Oscar R. Alcantara and wife Cassandra Alcantara (children Baltazar, Lorena, Viviana, Emilio), including 14 great grandchildren.
