Leon loved his family, trying to take in all of the activities that his children and grandchildren were involved in. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waconia, where he was secretary and president of the council during his life. Leon also was an usher on the weekend and helped usher at funerals at St Joseph. He was a member of the American Legion in Waconia. Leon liked going to the casino, locally and the occasional trip to Las Vegas. He loved going to the cabin in Cross Lake spending time with his children and grandchildren, fishing or whatever else they had going on.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents Alphonse and Margaret Schmieg; sons-in-law Jeff Geyen and Jerry Buesgens; sister Mary Jane (Jack) Stein; brothers Bert, Allen and Bernie Schmieg; niece Leslie Schmieg; father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Florence Wiebe; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
