Leon was born on May 29, 1935 in Laketown Twp. Carver County the son of Alphonse and Margaret (Reus) Schmieg. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Victoria Catholic Church in Victoria. On January 10, 1959 Leon was united in marriage to Donna L. Wiebe at St. Victoria Catholic Church in Victoria.

Leon loved his family, trying to take in all of the activities that his children and grandchildren were involved in. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waconia, where he was secretary and president of the council during his life. Leon also was an usher on the weekend and helped usher at funerals at St Joseph. He was a member of the American Legion in Waconia. Leon liked going to the casino, locally and the occasional trip to Las Vegas. He loved going to the cabin in Cross Lake spending time with his children and grandchildren, fishing or whatever else they had going on.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents Alphonse and Margaret Schmieg; sons-in-law Jeff Geyen and Jerry Buesgens; sister Mary Jane (Jack) Stein; brothers Bert, Allen and Bernie Schmieg; niece Leslie Schmieg; father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Florence Wiebe; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Leon is survived by his loving family: wife Donna; children Kevin Schmieg of Waconia, Laurie Buesgens of Waconia, Maria (Tom) Willems of Waconia, Lisa (Roch) Whittaker of Waconia, Cathy (Mick) Amundson of Waconia; grandchildren Courtney (Cole) Johnson, Kari (Luke) Graham, Emily (Jesse) Jaworski, Whitney (Ben) Kortuem, Alex Willems and fiancee Whitney, Roch Whittaker, Dillon Whittaker, Brady Amundson, Mackenzie Amundson; special friends Dan (Laurie) Bergeron; sisters Eileen (Arnie) Moe of Glenwood, Linda (Wayne) Plekkenphol of Aitkin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Carol Schmieg of Victoria, Fred (Veronica) Wiebe of Shakopee, Carol (Carl) Wachholz of Waconia, Judy (Howard) Luedloff of New Prague, Bill (Barb) Wiebe of Chaska, Bob (Judy) Wiebe of Waconia, Dick (Naomi) Wiebe of Minnetonka, Steve (Sue) Wiebe of Carver, Gary Wiebe of Chaska, Ronnie Wiebe of St. Bonifacius; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
