Pauline J "Polly" ROBERTSON Ray

November 25, 1924 – February 12, 2012

Pauline (Robertson) Ray-Brown entered into her new life in Heaven at the age of 87. She passed away at home in Hanford on Sunday, February 12, 2012, surrounded by the love of her family following a battle of recurring health issues.

Pauline was the oldest of three siblings born to her parents, Julie Browning and Alphus Robertson in Oklahoma. Pauline was preceded in death by her two younger brothers, Robert Young Robertson and Jesse Wayne Robertson.

She is survived by Jesse's wife, Lowell Ann Robertson, and she was preceded in death by Robert's wife, Elwanda Robertson. Pauline had eight older brothers and sisters from her father's first marriage. She was preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Fred, Jack, Ben and Alton Robertson, and her sisters: Beulah Gibson, Ruby Banning-Ball, Elsie Cowley and Ruth Conley.

Pauline met the love of her life, Vernon Wandell Ray, in Lawton, Oklahoma. They had a short courtship, married and embarked on their life together. Pauline and Vernon had five children: Vernon Wandell Ray, Jr., Darrel Wayne Ray, Linda Rebecca Ray, Michael Alan Ray and Marilyn Gwynn Ray.

Family was everything to Pauline and she was lovingly known as "Granny Brown" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren or "Aunt Polly" to her nieces and nephews. She was a strong supporter and fierce protector of those she loved. Her favorite times were those spent with her loved ones and our favorite family saying at those functions was "Granny, look what you started!"

She is survived by her five children: Vernon Ray and wife, Kathy; Darrell Ray; Linda NIckell and husband Johnny; Michael Ray and his wife Lagatha; and Marilyn Herrington and husband, Dwayne. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Vernon's children: Tracey and her husband, Shannon Gillum, Kristina and her husband, Jeff Moring, Julie and her husband, Paul Bettencourt; Darrel's daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Ruben Zamora; Linda's children: Melissa Staley, Johnny Nickell and his wife, Holly, and Jesse Nickell; Michael's children: David Ray, Jennifer and her husband, Jason Nelson; and Marilyn's children: Andrea and her husband, Kenny Garcia, and Natalie Barker. She is also survived by her twenty-seven great-grandchildren: Brenton Gillum and his wife, Sarah, Candace and her husband, Curtis Nelson, Deegan and Keeley Bettencourt, Aaron Joshua Doyel and his wife Jaqueline, Evan James Doyel, Darryl-Lynn Doyel, Anthony and Timothy Zamora, Justin Agler, Clorissa and Bobby Staley, Jocelyn Errico, Jesse Ryan Nickell, Jr., Jacob, David, Rebecka and Jenna Nelson, Maxwell, Alexis, and Zachary Ray, Bret, Dalton, and Courtney Garcia, and Megan and Michelle Barker. She also has four great-great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Joseph Agler, Brody Gillum, and Rylee Nelson. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon W. Ray, Sr., her daughter-in-law Beverly (Oliviera) Ray, and her great great granddaughter Kaylani Agler.

Pauline's life was full and rich because of her many friends and she found great joy in those relationships. She could always be counted on to send up prayers and offer comfort to all those fortunate enough to call her friend. She initially worked as a cook for Kings County Hospital, but eventually worked her way up to become the dietary manager. She also worked as the dietary manager of the Kings County Juvenile Detention Center. Upon her retirement, she became an in-home care provider. She loved this career, and considered the people she took care of as family and close friends. She also had a soft spot for her pets, and leaves behind her Paco and Peanut.
