Donald Caruth, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 12, at Abington on Grand in Ames. Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 14, at Abington on Grand in Ames. Burial was in Westview Cemetery in Prairie City.
Donald Denham Caruth was born July 12, 1921, to Charles Edward and Frances Elizabeth (Hawks) Caruth on the family farm north of Ellsworth. He grew up in Ellsworth, graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1939. He served in the U. S. Army on Okinawa. He married Jeanetta Beyer Feb. 24, 1949, in Prairie City. They farmed near Ellsworth. He studied to be a machinist in Fort Dodge. He worked at Modern Farm Systems in Webster City and Allen Machine Co. in Ames and Nevada. He retired in 1990 following a stroke.
He is survived by one son, Creig (Helen) of Nevada; one daughter, Nancy (Mahood) Naim of Salt Point, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Cleiton, Christian, Tawnya, Donyel, Nadia, Nyla, and Nikki; one brother, Wallace Caruth of Coal Valley, Ill.; and two sisters, Roberta Mather of Humboldt and Mary Bea Tolstrup of Webster City.
Becker Funeral Home in Jewell was in charge of arrangements.
