Steven Paul Bird, 60, died Sunday, June 9, 2019 at his home in Muscoda. Steve was born in Richland Center, WI to Paul and Caryl (Manning) Bird. He lived for most of his life in Muscoda with his wife Sherri and family. After graduating from Riverdale High School in 1976, he attended Western Wisconsin Technical Institute in La Crosse and received a degree in Wood Technics upon graduation. He met his wife, Sherri, in high school, and they married on September 16, 1978 at the Blue River United Methodist Church.

After obtaining his degree in La Crosse, he began working for GTE/Verizon/Frontier out of Dodgeville as an architectural engineer for five years before changing positions to Service Technician for nearly 40 years. He worked for a short time in Dallas, Texas in the same position before returning to Wisconsin with his wife to be closer to family, and they built their home beside the Wisconsin River.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life, and especially enjoyed going morel mushroom hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. He could always be found on the Wisconsin River in the summertime, fishing, camping, and boating with his wife Sherri, his children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sherri (Tisdale) Bird; his son Jeremy (Sarah) Bird of Muscoda; his daughter Brenda (Matt) Chitwood of Muscoda; three grandchildren Levi Bird, Luella Chitwood, and Frank Chitwood; his mother Caryl (Bill) Miller of Muscoda; his brother Gary (Eva) Bird of Muscoda; his sister Kathy (Dale) Riddiough of Lone Rock; his brother Doug Bird of Lancaster; in-laws, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Paul Bird.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM the Blue River United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Blue River Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Godager Pratt Funeral Home in Muscoda from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at the church on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
