Willard Joseph Heatwole, 82, of Bridgewater, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at his home after living several years with the rare disease of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Mr. Heatwole was born on August 22, 1933 in Hinton, the son of Ralph Frank and Vera Early Heatwole. On April 17, 1954, he married Melba Frances Kiser who survives.

He enjoyed people, family connections, traveling and creative construction, but his real joy and purpose was knowing God through Christ Jesus, and in inviting others to this commitment. His lifelong work was as missionary, pastor, teacher, community developer and church administrator. He served in Jamaica 20 years, and 2 years each in Costa Rica and Albania. He also served as pastor for churches in Virginia and Kansas and as president of Virginia Mennonite Missions.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Jerrel (Alma) Heatwole of Greenwood, DE; Conrad (Mary Jane) Heatwole of Christiansburg; Jewel (Gary) Yoder of Harrisonburg; Ransford (Christine) Heatwole of Beaver, PA; Marolyn Heatwole of Naples, FL; siblings, Daniel (Betty) Heatwole; Miriam (Howard) Brubaker; Ida Lois Goering; Twila (Robert) Risser; Evelyn (Edgar) Strite; Doris (James) Landis; Byard (Rosemary) Heatwole; Vera Rose (Eldwin) Campbell; a sister-in-law, Margaret Heatwole; thirteen grandchildren with fifteen great grandchildren, Jerrel Jr. (Sarah) Heatwole with Asher & Jubilee, David (Roxie) Heatwole with Asia & Lincoln, Gabriel Heatwole, Carmen (Jeff) Shiery; Kendra (Absalom) Heatwole Shank with Lila & Silas, Cheryl (Timothy) Heatwole Shenk with Lydia, Matteo & Vivia, Kaitlin Heatwole (Nathan Hershberger); Brendan (Rebekah) Yoder with Joella, Jeshiah & Kylah, Stephanie (Christopher) Pellerin, Kyle Yoder; Dano (Tara) Heatwole with Ransom & Bliss, Kara (Matthew) Plett with Aubrey and Risa (Benjamin) Yutzy.

Mr. Heatwole was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roy, Oren and Enos, in-laws Glennys Heatwole and James Goering.

Daryl Driver, Joscelyn Robinson and Terry Cline will conduct a funeral service at Dayton Mennonite Church on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Dayton Mennonite Church.
